Place Based Model, Partners, Supporters

Adam Klimkiewicz arrived in Bundaberg in August 2020 working full time as a Social Worker for Youth Insearch under the Place Based Model.

Being situated within the headspace Bundaberg centre, and working directly with local high schools, means that Adam can offer consistent, sustained support for young people in the program. Prior to Adam's appointment, our Bundaberg operations had limited capacity with the support of one volunteer; which meant limited support for young people.

With the introduction of the Place Based Model we are now approaching a total of 50 young people supported during 2021 in Bundaberg, and an active caseload of 24 young people. The accessibility of Youth Insearch in Bundaberg has been significantly increased, with young people getting around to meet each other at weekend workshops and support groups, and gaining support through individual case management directly with Adam.

The case management service component adds an extra layer of support for young people, with the opportunity to dive deeper into their own case plan, tailored specifically to their needs.

Youth Insearch has partnered with the incredibly supportive headspace Bundaberg which is operated by Youturn Limited, enabling shared referral pathways, a space to work from, and a venue to hold Support Groups right in the heart of Bundaberg. Adam operates within the headspace Bundaberg centre which is an in-kind arrangement, and the partnership is proving to be a wonderful benefit to both organisations and the young people who are able to access their services. Youth Insearch offers young people some pretty spectacular services with our peer-support program; and headspace Bundaberg clinicians have been more than pleased to refer to us.

During this time, Adam has developed strong relationships with Bundaberg State High School and North Bundaberg State High, through which he conducts case management services on select mornings for the students of the schools. Already Youth Insearch is seeing the benefits of these partnerships leading to increased attendances at weekend workshops, and greater engagement at Support Groups.

“What a wonderful, inspiring, sometimes challenging, but ultimately super meaningful journey it’s been for me during my time at Youth Insearch. I arrived in Bundaberg after taking this position for Youth Insearch back in August. It was a long journey from Adelaide! I to traversed 4,500 kilometres! I travelled through the red centre and then across Mount Isa into – eventually – Bundaberg, because at the time COVID-related restrictions meant I couldn’t travel through NSW or Victoria! I’m so glad I made the effort.” - Adam Klimkiewicz, Social Worker

We cannot express more clearly that these partnerships are working to the benefit of all involved, and is an exemplary example of the Place Based Model in action. Here’s to the remainder of 2021 and beyond, for Youth Insearch in Bundaberg and across Australia!
