When our office in Sale Victoria flooded on 24 March 2021 after a downpour of 80 ML overnight, Youth Insearch and A Better Life For Foster Kids came together and cleaned up with the help of the community.

Although Youth Insearch was located in the upstairs part of the building, the water came through the roof and pooled under our desks. It was heartbreaking to come in, only two days out from our first Victorian weekend workshop in just over 12 months, to find water flooding the floor.

Youth Insearch supporters A Better Life for Foster Kids occupied the office downstairs and they had also been flooded, with damage to their items donated from supporters for gifting to kids in need.

Thankfully not too much was damaged for us, other than the floors flooding and roof where it came pouring through in a couple of spots, but it was a massive clean up for Heather and the girls at A Better Life for Foster Kids, and the community jumping on board to help out with washing and heavy lifting, and with whatever else was needed.

With all this happening, we are so grateful that A Better Life For Foster Kids then allowed us to ride along on their coat tails when we all had to evacuate the building, so that the repairs and maintenance can be done. A Better Life For Foster Kids arranged for some office space for us to work from to keep our Victorian operations running, and we are so thankful for their generosity.

Also huge thank you to the wonderful Loy Yang B workers (who power Alinta Energy) as community partners of A Better Life for Foster Kids, when they came to the office and helped to clean up, remove wet carpets, and with heavy lifting that needed doing.

Also a shout out to our Program Quality and Partnerships Manager Sharon’s husband Paul Schofield and nephew Durham Sellings for their efforts in moving the office equipment out and back into the new temporary premises.

Great team work and community spirit to get both nonprofit organisations rehoused and set up within a week.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
