Sarah's Story

She thought she was just another number...

“12 months ago, I got arrested for the first time. This was easily one of the top 5 scariest moments of my life, but as time went on, it got bumped further down the list. Between nights in holding cells, days in mental health facilities and months on bail, I just gave up.

“By December, I was at my lowest point. “

I made an attempt on my life, and I was over the way things had been. January closely followed; I almost traded my dream career for a record that could’ve easily doubled as my new rap album ‘Life lessons vol.1 the Jailhouse edition’ when I narrowly missed a 3 year sentence to Juvie.

If it wasn’t for Youth Insearch and the Police, I would still be on the same path I was heading down. Being apart of a service that has not just kicked me to the curb after 6 weeks and has continued to support me on a weekly basis, has shown me I am not alone and there are people who care and are willing to walk with me on this journey.

"I am not just another number to them.”

Although there were many good runs from the Police, Ambos, fences jumped and thousands of kilometers walked, I have come a long way because of the support I have received. I am now no longer regularly attending court, having police contact or spending nights in the Emergency Department. I am getting back into education, participating in the sports I love and have got back on track to complete the requirements for the career I have always dreamed of.”
