2026 National Volunteer Week
Behind every Youth Insearch program is a community of volunteers whose time and care help create safe, supportive spaces for young people.
This National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to spotlight one of those volunteers, Christine, an Adult Support Volunteer who has been contributing her time at Weekend Workshops in Shoalhaven, NSW since 2023.
Christine first learned about Youth Insearch through her local community. “I first heard about Youth Insearch at a monthly community meeting,” she recalls, where she met Youth Insearch team members. Not long after, she was invited to attend a Weekend Workshop, an experience that would stay with her.
After attending her first Weekend Workshop, Christine felt compelled to get involved. “I was really moved by the dedication of the young people and the impact the camp had — not only on the youth, but on me personally,” she says. “Over the years, it’s been incredible to watch some of these young people grow, mature, and turn things around. It’s a real privilege.”
As an Adult Support Volunteer, Christine plays a vital role during Weekend Workshops, offering calm reassurance and consistency to young people navigating challenging experiences.

My role involves being present, providing a safe person to talk to, offering support, and giving plenty of ‘mummy bear’ hugs when needed,” she explains.
Christine sees first‑hand the positive changes young people experience through Youth Insearch programs. “Young people gain confidence, self‑awareness, and a safe space to be themselves,” she says. “For many, it’s an awakening; for some, it’s a reality check and a chance to re‑correct the course they’re on. Most of all, they gain meaningful connections and make lasting friendships.”
While Christine gives so much to the young people she supports, she shares that volunteering has also had a profound personal impact. “I always walk away learning a little more about myself,” she reflects. “Volunteering has made me more empathetic and has honestly helped make me a better mum and community worker.”
One of Youth Insearch’s core values is “valuing people and connection”, and stories like Christine’s reflect this in action, building meaningful relationships within communities.
This National Volunteer Week, we thank Christine and all of our volunteers across Australia whose commitment helps make our peer‑led programs possible and ensures young people feel supported, seen and valued.
