Philanthropy Australia Conference
Our Head of Development & Engagement, Tara Van Toorn, recently attended the Philanthropy Australia Conference 2026 in Brisbane, joining more than 1,200 delegates from 20 countries for one of the sector’s leading gatherings of philanthropists, community leaders, grantmakers and changemakers.
The conference theme, Mobilise Generosity. Shape the Future, encouraged attendees to explore how collaboration and collective action can drive meaningful social change.
Across the conference, a strong focus emerged on the importance of partnership-based approaches to solving complex social challenges. Discussions highlighted the growing recognition that lasting impact is achieved when funders, governments, businesses and community organisations work together towards shared outcomes rather than in isolation.
For Youth Insearch, these conversations reinforced the value of its peer-led model and the critical role that early intervention and prevention play in supporting young people. Many presenters emphasised the need to invest in approaches that build resilience, connection and wellbeing before issues escalate into crisis, aligning strongly with the organisation’s mission and programs.
The conference also highlighted an increasing shift towards trust-based philanthropy, where funders and community organisations work as genuine partners to create long-term change. There was significant discussion about the importance of listening to lived experience, reducing barriers to funding and supporting organisations to focus on sustainable impact rather than short-term outputs.
Beyond the formal program, the conference provided valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships with philanthropic leaders, foundations and sector partners who share a commitment to improving outcomes for young people. These conversations generated new ideas and opportunities that will help inform Youth Insearch’s ongoing efforts to expand its reach and impact across Australia.
